However, that did not work. All week, I struggled with teaching and being sick. By Tuesday, Will and my students convinced me that I needed to take a day off from work to get better. I think the main problem with being sick while pregnant is that I am not allowed to take a lot medicine. Here is the medication list my doctor gave me on what I am allowed to take.
Colds/Sinus Congestion
Tylenol Cold/Tylenol Sinus/Tylenol PM
Afrin Nasal Spray (limit to 2 days)
Chlor-Trimeton/Chlorpheniramine
Triaminic Syrup
Benadryl
Claritin/Zyrtec
Cough
Robitussin DM
Triaminic Syrup
Pain, Headache, Fever
Tylenol or Extra-Strength Tylenol
As you can see, these medications are helpful but not enough to get rid of any sickness, quickly. By Wednesday evening, I finally was back to myself and feeling so much better.
Yesterday, I had another joyous day ! (being sarcastic). I had to go to my doctor and get that lovely glucose diabetes test done. When I arrived at 8:30 in the morning, I was handed this fruit punch drink along with a timer.
This is what I had to drink in 5 minutes. |
I was instructed that I had to drink the sugary substance within 5 minutes. The funny thing was that I was REALLY thirsty and actually inhaled the drink in less than 1 minute. Then, I had to wait for a full hour to let the substance go through my body. During that hour, I realized that I shouldn't have drank it so fast. I actually thought I was going to get sick to my stomach due to all the sugar. This drink reminded me of Hawaiian Punch with about 10 more tablespoons of sugar added to it.
Once my hour was up I had to go to the lab and get my blood work done for the test. I will find out if I pass my glucose test next week. ( I will update when I learn of my results).
After my blood tests, I was able to meet with my doctor for my monthly checkup. She used the doppler to detect Harper's heartbeat. Her heartbeat was much faster than normal due to all the sugar I had drank that morning but still healthy.
She also commented on how well I was doing with my pregnancy weight. Since, the beginning of my pregnancy, I have gained a total of 21 pounds in 29 weeks. She told me that this was by the book perfect and to keep it up. So, I really hope that I can do this for another 11 weeks.
Lastly, she informed me that I was only going to be meeting with her a total of 7 more times before Harper's arrival. She then, gave me an emergency sheet for the hospital and labor guidelines. This is when it hit me, that I am going to be a MOM in less than 11 weeks! I am very excited but also nervous for what the future holds for our little growing family.
Fingers crossed everything goes well! |

**UPDATE**
I received word from my doctor, this afternoon, that I PASSED my glucose test. This was exciting news since I did not want to sit through that 3 hour test you are required to take if you fail it. However, I no longer have to worry about that! What a great start to the weekend!
